In add-on, it is highly traumatic for kids that do non cognize any different or that are still excessively immature and naA?ve to understand what is traveling on. This subject is highly of import in the fact that more research needs to be gathered to understand why this is happening within the household. This issue is more prevailing that many people realize. Therefore this paper is traveling to discourse issues associating to incest and sexual kid maltreatment within households. It will include research and surveies that relate to household incest and maltreatment. The paper will cover an analysis of research that has been conducted on the associating subject of incest including short term and long-run effects of incest. There are many different signifiers of incest, but extended research findings have merely been implemented on a few of the signifiers. There are besides factors such as certain age scopes and gender that are more likely to meet incest maltreatment. As more research is being conducted sing incest and maltreatment, there besides needs to be more bar execution. Research is of import because it allows research workers to happen the grounds and causes of why this is go oning. However, this issue of incest will non travel off without some kind of bar maneuver. Prevention is an highly of import method to assist cut down the prevalence of incest and maltreatment within households. Incest can be a stressor and traumatic event that frequently causes short term and long-run effects on exploited kids. There are issues such as chemical dependance, mental unwellness, and legion psychosocial stressors that these victims can meet ( Courtois, 1997 ) . In add-on, the household can confront perturbations within relationships and kineticss ( Courtois, 1997 ) . These issues include parental strife and immatureness, parent-child function reversals and triangulation, boundary misdemeanors, double-bind communications, and entrenched forms of denial, secrecy and rigidness ( Courtois, 1997 ) . These are merely a few of the effects that incest can bring forth among households. Short-run effects of incest consists of, those effects that the victim experiences or shows during and/or instantly after the incest and/or its revelation ( the most consistent include emotional ) ( Vander Mey A ; Neff, 1986, p. 67 ) . The victim can expose a assortment of emotions and feelings that are typically associated with short-run effects. These can include shame, guilt, fright, choler, in add-on to feelings of being trapped, used, confused, betrayed, and humiliated ( Vander Mey A ; Neff, 1986, p. 67 ) . Not every victim will see these short-run effects, but most frequently victims will see one these emotional effects from incest maltreatment. On the contrary, Long-run effects for the victim are those behaviours, attitudes, or sentiments that the victim has or shows old ages after the incident ( s ) of incest: effects that are due straight or indirectly to the incest ( Vander Mey A ; Neff, 1986, p. 67 ) . These effects go beyond emotional issues ; they extend to larger pervert, antisocial, and/or illegal behavioural effects of the victims ( Vander Mey A ; Neff, 1986, p. 67 ) . Often times these behaviours include one or more of the followers: promiscuousness, inability to presume a wife/mother function, alcohol addiction, drug maltreatment, harlotry sexual dysfunctioning, delinquency, depression and self-destruction ( Vander Mey A ; Neff, 1986, p. 67 ) . There seem to be many negative effects on kids involved in incest maltreatment. There is besides much contention among research sing the effects on the victims. There appears to be no definite absolute replies that tell us precisely what will go on to a kid who is the victim of incest maltreatment. However, there is adequate consistent informations to reason that incest is a major hazard factor for a assortment of serious aftereffects ( Courtois, 1997 ) . The surveies done in respects of victim effects seem to expose a reasonably strong assortment of possible results. As there is no definite solution to effects of kids who experience incest maltreatment, there is a scope of common possible consequences. There seemed to be small or no research sing the permanent effects of the long-run effects among victims. However, there was an overall consensus between research surveies that each kid is an single and no two cases/situations are the same, and no two victims will walk off the same. Within a household, each single takes on different functions. There are common functions that characterize a culprit of incest. The most common is the autocratic male parent who has absolute authorization over the full household ( battle of a power instability ) ( Blume, 1990, p. 34 ) . In this state of affairs the remainder of his household fears the male parent ( Blume, 1990, p. 34 ) . He displays control and power and his married woman and childs are on a changeless guard seeking to neer upset him ( Blume, 1990, p. 34 ) . The male parent takes advantage of the power he has by sexually mistreating his kid ( ren ) and perchance his married woman every bit good. There is besides another type of male parent that is referred to as the timid male parent ( Blume, 1990, p. 34 ) . This pa is non able to stand up to another grownup and show his feelings and is frequently considerd a push-over ( Blume, 1990, p. 35 ) . Since he seems to hold no control within the household, he seeks his control elsewhere by sexually mistreating a boy or girl of his. There are many people who say that victims of kid maltreatment will turn up to go maltreaters. However, Blume ( 1990 ) states that, One is responsible for one s grownup acts ; one s yesteryear does non do one to make force to another ( p. 37 ) . In add-on, if it were true that these victims of maltreatment bend into maltreaters, so should nt there be more adult females as culprits since adult females are more likely be seen as the victims? However, this is non the instance because most incest subsisters are female, and David Finkelhor says, there is a male monopoly on kid molesting ( Blume, 1990, p. 37 ) . It is of import to retrieve that immature misss are non the lone victims of incest and that male parents are non the lone culprits either. Perpetrators can include female parents, brothers, sisters, and extended household ( Sloan A ; Porter 1984 ) . Similarly, victims can dwell of boies, girls, cousins, etc ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . There may be more prevalence in certain state of affairss, but incest is incest no affair who the victim is or who the culprit is. Researchs have said that it is really hard to roll up research on the issue of incest. There are a assortment of grounds for this with the foremost ground being specifying incest ( Blume, 1990, p. 26 ) . There is no one definition of incest ; there are assorted positions on what constitutes as incest. Some are more restrictive than others. For illustration, some include touch as incest maltreatment, and others include step-parents/siblings as culprits of incest maltreatment. ( Blume, 1990, p. 27 ) . In add-on, some say that any age under 18 old ages old constitutes as incest maltreatment ; nevertheless, there are other research workers other things ( Blume, 1990, p. 27 ) . Prevention is the key to decreasing this issue. Merely as it is of import to hold intervention centres and therapy for those who have experienced incest maltreatment, it is besides of import to implement preventive steps. Sloan and Porter discuss a bar program that was created and implemented by community wellness nurses into a public school. First, there was an accent on the importance that kids are cognizant that instructors and school decision makers are available to discourse nonacademic jobs ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . Second, the focal point was to show every bit much information as possible to the kids without scaring those who had non had these sorts of experiences ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . Third, the community wellness nurses wanted to supply kids with a job work outing technique that could be used in a figure of state of affairss ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . There was success in this plan in the fact that they were able to show intense information to immature childs without scaring or making anxiousness for them ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . There were besides merely positive remarks received from instructors and school functionaries ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . However, the positive feedback that was received was merely obtained through school disposal and community wellness nurses who worked together to accomplish their end ( Sloan A ; Porter, 1984 ) . As this survey seems really encouraging, there needs to be more facets that are examined in order to find the existent effects of the plan. It is great that this peculiar plan focused on kids because it allows them to understand what incest and maltreatment is about, but at that place besides needs to be a plan that helps the grownups as good. The surveies and information presented has, for the most portion, seemed to follow in the same way and correlative with each other. There is the basic overall decision of the thought that incest maltreatment is more prevailing than many people think and that bar is the key to cut downing the issue. All of the surveies seemed to show how hard incest research is due to assorted factors. These factors covered a broad scope, while some research focused on victim s deficiency of study and others emphasized the definition of incest. The overall research seems to foreground the highly sad state of affairss and traumatic experiences that victimized kids encounter. There are many short-run and long-run effects that kids can see due to incest maltreatment. The deductions that are drawn from these issues is that there needs to be non merely therapy for victims, but besides bar plans implemented to assist diminish the issue of incest.

Sample Critical Thinking Essay: The Impact of a Store’s Environment on Consumer Behavior Not long ago, consumers used to focus simply on products functions or attributes before selecting a place to shop at. This has changed recently as now consumers demand added beneficial elements. This is especially true considering the fact that today’s buyers understand how much brands need their businesses. One aspect which they desire the most is a pleasant atmosphere as they shop. Realizing this growing demand, today’s retailers are working harder than ever to integrate convenience into their stores’ surroundings and to ensure huge spaces that spare consumers from feeling stuck or confined as they shop. By definition, atmosphere is a term used to explain consumers’ feelings towards the shopping experience. It can also be described as a design which produces emotional effects on the buyer, enhancing their purchasing probability. Based on these definitions, it is safe to say that an attractive and impressive atmosphere has the power to create an enjoyable experience among consumers, positively affecting their buying decisions and incurring retailers more revenue. There are a set of factors which contribute to the effectiveness of a retail store’s atmosphere. A majority, if not all, should be present to ensure consumers a good shopping experience and keep them captivated enough to come back for more in the future. First off, cleanliness is vital for the atmosphere of the store. Customers are bound to create negative word of mouth if they notice even the slightest speck on product displays or floors. This is because cleanliness of outlets portrays a brand’s dedication to comfort and luxury. Music is another factor that can make or break a retail store’s atmosphere. The sounds can impact consumers’ conscious and unconscious decisions. Styles and tempos of music can influence consumers to buy more at retail outlets. Moreover, pleasant music can lengthen consumption time whereas loud music will drive them away. As music selections and their sound levels differ based on gender as well, stores need to put much thought into what they play in order to ensure buyers of a great environment. Appearances are also taken into consideration while shopping in traditional stores. Contributing to this factor are lighting, colors used, and displays/layout. Lighting goes beyond highlighting products to generating excitement and positively impacting consumer purchasing behavior. Consumers tend to touch products when good lighting shines on them to assess quality. Color is also important for building feelings and affecting consumer attitudes as it has the power to stimulate memories, thoughts, and experiences. For instance, red tends to portray negativity and tension, which is why it is hardly used in comparison with greens and blues. Finally, products are displayed in a way that attracts customers to make impulse purchases. In fact, design and display of products contribute one fourth sales of the outlets. Unfortunately, not many store owners understand the value of the atmosphere and its impact on consumer behavior. As a result, they remain stagnant and refuse to change. On the other hand, some stores make wrong decisions that cost them their clientele. Therefore, this is one aspect that needs to be tackled with care so that stores can truly reap benefits. Of course, you can come up with a better essay since you understand the subject well and have your instructor’s guidelines in mind. So, go on and write a  critical thinking essay before your deadline. References: Peterson, H. (2016). Millennials Are Old News - Here’s Everything You Should Know About Generation Z. The Traditional Pedagogical Method of Learning Assignment

The Traditional Pedagogical Method of Learning - Assignment Example Teachers have to provide motivation and further encourage the student to continue exploring and questioning the matter. It is important for the students to learn to apply what the teacher has delivered as information. This educational goal can be achieved if they learn how to think abstractly. The teacher has to equip them with the tools to critically evaluate situations and problems and then determine by themselves the solution. This happens when the teacher uses strategies and concepts that build skills required for productive collaboration. Students have to construct their own meaning despite the directions and teaching methods of the teachers (Science for all Americans 1990). Through the principles of learning and teaching, the learning environment also encourages students to develop their independent and interdependent learning abilities. The teachers should establish an atmosphere where the students can learn both individually and with each other. Such tasks can be beneficial especially for young students who still orient themselves in the educational setting. Learning usually occurs when students have the opportunity not only to express their ideas but also to get feedback both from their peers and teachers (Science for all Americans 1990).

Concert report for a piano Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Concert report for a piano - Essay Example Since the concert had been advertised some days before, a large number of audiences had turned up. Esther Parker was a well known soloist who had performed with orchestras in both the Asia and the United States of America. She has had the passion for the piano since she was four years old and after moving to the United States of America she began attending piano lessons which later became her foundation in musical arts. She graduated from Yale University with a master’s degree. Tickets could be purchased online before the concert. Most of the people in the audience were students and professors from other departments who had a passion for music. The room was well set for the event and flashy lights had been put in place to add a lovely finish to the whole thing. Additionally, one of the school’s bands broke the ice by entertaining the audience. The room was at full capacity by eight in the evening and those who came late did not find a place to seat. The performance was breath taking especially in places where Parker changed the pitches and speed of play. After the first thirty minutes of her performance, the audience was really moved and we were given a fifteen minutes break to review on her performance. She was full of energy and if given the chance, could continue without a break. As soon as she finished her first session, the audience stood up and clapped almost two minutes appreciating her good work. I could even hear some member begging her to continue playing her piano. As her fingers run through the keyboard we all cheered as we went for the break. Mrs. Parker was very kind as when the audience asked for more of her performance, she was very ready to satisfy us and added another thirty minutes to her performance. According to me, here performance was worth a listen since she used the piano keyboard to provide a harmonic and melodic interplay. Musical styles There are different styles of music worldwide which vary from cultural to social and regional diversities. Different cultures may put up various types of music styles and genres. In the United States, there is the Western style of music production which is not found in other regions. From the performance, Esther Parker plays the Western style of music. Having graduated at an American university, she has coped with the western culture which has helped her perform Western styles of music. Music genres These are categories that can be used to differentiate various types of music according to their traditional and convections. Musical techniques may be used to explain a certain type of genre. For example, there are classical jazz, rock and karaoke genres among others. From the performance, Mrs. Parker plays classical types of songs using her piano. This type of music genre is mostly found in the Western countries, United States of America being part of them. Irrespective of her Asian background, she is able to satisfy the audience with the right kind of music genre. Th e classical genre uses staff notation to distinguish itself from other Western genres. Staff notation is where the soloist changes the pitch, meter, speed and rhythms during performance. As Ether parker played her piano, I could note the change in speed and rhythm. The combination of these effects provided a smooth song for the audience. Classical music was codified in the 18th century and later invented in the 19th century. Orchestras first performed it where different instruments including the piano

Transformative Pedagogy and Learning

Transformative Pedagogy and Learning One of the most exciting changes that have occurred in education during the past decade has been the increase in knowledge in the areas of brain research and cognitive science. This research has produced a wealth of knowledge about how the brain functions and the kinds of conditions under which it learns most effectively. This new knowledge has significant implications for pedagogy and curriculum, and also for how schools are organized because the reality is that the kinds of conditions that are needed to promote learning are not seen inmost schools. Increased knowledge about new research related to pedagogy and curriculum is vital to making decisions about new strategies or innovations. The term pedagogy is defined as the art and science of being a teacher, refers not only to strategies or styles of instruction but also to the facilitation and management of sustainable transformations, whether individual, social, structural or institutional. The transformative dimension of pedagogy deserves to be clarified, revisited and eventually changed the responsibility of educators to transcend the traditional role and expand the scope of the work towards an active participation to knowledge enrichment. What is Transformative Pedagogy? A transformative pedagogy is based both on a realistic view of contemporary and on possible paths to improvement in our human life. Knowledge is a social concept and it emphasiss the value of multiple perspectives in the teaching/learning experience. It is well known learners construct their own knowledge, based on their interaction with the environment. It is within the constructivist perspective that we find insights about transformative pedagogy. It is in this environment that the critical questioning can lead to deeper self-reflection as students absorb with knowledge and perspectives that differ from their own. The process of transformative pedagogy opens the door for the development of problem-solving skills that promote active responses within the larger society, making transformative pedagogy far more than the transmission of information. It also expands the view of students and teachers alike, leading to greater self-awareness, deeper compassion for others and a commitment to produce change in self and the world. Teachers should be enfranchised to take meaning from what their pupils bring with them into the classroom. Childrens cultural exchanges with other children are important and dominant in the negotiations of interests between home, school and peer group, Present day system of teaching and learning In todays educational scenario the curriculum is classified and framed. Teachers have little opportunity to introduce new ideas. Teachers dont have autonomy in curriculum matters. Schools still use printed and linear pedagogy that was developed in the past. Teachers tend to use new technologies which can be adapted to their old styles of teaching following the syllabus guidelines. Young people learn more by peer group interaction than engagement with adults. In the process of learning evaluation is done by conducting tests. It is believed that all human beings are alike. Every learner was assigned same lesson. Teaching was teacher centered and the curriculum focused on subject matter. The information was organized in sequenced topics and units and the teacher delivered and students have to master them. The intended outcome is to pass the test by memorizing and mastering the transmitted information. Advantages of Transformative Pedagogy Transformative pedagogy places the student at the center of learning. It help learners find their own inner voice and power, therefore they feel empowered to effect social change. Teachers have to respect and will have compassions for co-learners. All ways of knowing are interconnected and enriched by each other. The desired outcome is to change- to transfer learning into social action outside the classroom. Transformative pedagogy is closer to collaborative approach. The power is more likely to be shared between students and teachers. The curriculum focuses on problems and solutions by both teachers and students and they jointly construct meaning that informs learners personal growth. Learning is measured by observing each students growth and thinking process, inquiry process, and students predisposition to lifelong learning. Transformative learning involves experiencing a deep, structural shift in the basic premise of thought, feeling, and actions. It is a shift of consciousness that dramatically and permanently alters our way of being in the world. Such a shift involves our understanding of ourselves and our self-locations; our relationships with other humans and with the natural world; our understanding of relations of power in interlocking structures of class, race, and gender; our body-awareness; our visions of alternative approaches to living; and our sense of the possibilities for social justice and peace and personal joy Edmund V. OSullivan (2002) Process of Transformative Learning The process of transformative learning involves four vital concepts known as experiencing, conceptualising, analysing, and applying. Experiencing understands in our own ways the interests, perspectives and expressions that learners form in their mind. Conceptualising is drawing and calling something with distinctions of similarity and difference with interpretative framework. Analysing is a process of reasoning, drawing inferential and deductive conclusions, establishing functional relations. It also involves evaluation of your own and other peoples perspectives, interests and motives. Applying is the application of knowledge and understandings to the complex diversity of real world situations and testing their validity. The technology has the potential to inspire all of us to transform the way we live, the way we teach, and the way we learn. It is a radical transformation in educational practice, especially who learns from whom, where, under what circumstances, and for what and whose purpose. Hence the notion of a transformative pedagogy in the environment of ubiquitous learning (Cope Kalantzis, 2008) is not to start from the side of the teacher, but from the side of the student. Internet resources can uniquely facilitate advocacy by helping students obtain necessary information, promoting communication, and enabling coordination with others who have similar concerns. Conclusion The importance of preparing teachers for transformative learning cannot be emphasized enough. If the persistent achievement, learning, and community gaps ((Lee, 2005) are to be closed, and if we are to foster a multicultural democracy, we need teachers who possess the habits and minds of transformative practice. To facilitate successful learning in multicultural education courses, professors must be proactive and engage in pedagogies that are empowering, humanizing, and liberating yet engaging enough to foster meaningful knowledge construction and yet critical enough to challenge students conservative and myopic beliefs and values. We have to study, think, and dialogue about the future of our schools in a time when global knowledge, information technology and the constancy of change are altering the environment of learning. When students make the transition from the classroom into the work force, they are by and large, simply not equipped to handle the challenges they race. They have not acquired the real world skills they need to thrive not just survive in todays laser fast, high-tech globally competitive environment but to help face a future that is more volatile, competitive and complex than ever before. Learning is a community endeavor. The corner stone of a prosperous nation is its intellectual capital. Its true wealth is the treasure of the collective minds of its populace. Creating an ideal, true learning society is the real challenge for the future schools. The future schools will be a workplace for creative, innovative and productive learning for children to make them live with more confident and to b e useful to the society and community and to a large extent to b the good citizen of a nation. The main challenge for tomorrows schools is creating a knowledgeable creative society. Transformative pedagogy is one of the important concepts of learning every pedagogue should know for transforming children of today. P. Vijayachandran

Diversification Economy in Las Vegas â€Å"Las Vegas is lagging behind many cities in the recovery because we were in much worse shape than most cities,† David Christianson, who is a TCA 449 professor in University of Nevada, Las Vegas who is a knowledgeable international tourism professor said so in my personal interview, â€Å"Since we are a mono economy, any kind of diversification would be helpful. † The dominating economy in Las Vegas are from gaming, tourism, convention and meeting, which then could support and develop the restaurant industry. Therefore, the economy of Las Vegas needs diversification to develop deeply. The economy of Las Vegas relies on consumer spending; however it has not yet recovered since the economic crisis in 2008, this is due to that this city relies so much on discretionary spending which lead to the result that its recovery will be slower than the rest of the country. For this reason, Las Vegas needs diversification economy moreover needs to seek some environmental-friendly industries that will not bring burden to the gambling town environment. Diversification economy wills bring more profit, government revenues, export income and employment. Many people said that tough Las Vegas need diversification economy, there is no industry fit for Las Vegas. They think if we want to set up new industry in Las Vegas will cost much money and get a little bit benefit. Anyway, the diversification economy is the best way to annihilate poverty. The diversification economy in Las Vegas can bring many benefits. The first thing can increase economy. The social development pattern let us know the growth of economy is not everything gets development, but it is the heart of development. The economy development is the best way to solve unemployment crisis, it can provide more job for people, at the same time, and people can get higher salary. People have money will promote the consumption level. Moreover, it is means higher tax rate. Becaus e of higher tax rate, the government will have more budgets. Therefore, people will have better hospital, better university, and better public utility. And also the government will promote the development of infrastructure and manufacturing.Someone will say lots of investment can increase economy, but this is not a persistent thing. We know that the American housing crisis is a negative example. If we want to make our Las Vegas become rich city must set up some real industry can make money for Las Vegas, according to Henny, from his essay â€Å"China land price fall threatens local finances†, he said most small cities, poor cities, they lack of diversification economy. The heart of development is economy, if we don’t have a good economy how we can develop entertainment, education, and tourist industry.Chinese always say economy is the foundation of a large building, if the foundation not good, the building will collapse, when the building collapsed if we want to rebuil d it, we need pay more money and attention to rebuild it. It is the reason why the Chinese increase rapidly. Diversification economy in Las Vegas can promote the equity among people. Diversification economy brings many job and higher salary. Therefore, the gap between rich and poor will be shortened. Moreover, it will promote the benign competition. The equity can create a good social environment in Las Vegas. It will reduce crime, less beggar and also make people have a better situation in heart. The happiness will at a high level in Las Vegas. According to the UN general secretary Ban Ki moon in World Day of Social Justice in 20 Feb 2011 what he said is social equity not only the ethic, but also it is groundwork of social and country’s prosperity. We cannot ignore benefit of equity in diversification economy. If there is high quality equity in Las Vegas, the right of culture, political, economy and education will get better protection. In other words the equity is the founda tion of harmony. The diversification economy also brings the stability. Firstly, is the social stability, the high unemployment in Las Vegas could cause seriously threat to social stability. Consequently, Las Vegas should build more industry reduce the unemployment rate. Chinese think about the 8 percent economic growth is the best rate to protect the social stability. Secondly, is the economic stability, Las Vegas only rely on the hospitality industry, it is not stability. Like above mentioned, Macao is exceed Las Vegas in hospitality industry recent years. On the other hand, hospitality has off season, when the off season comes, what can support economy in Las Vegas? In order to let us Las Vegas being alive, Las Vegas needs more different industry to support the economy, it is insurance for long term economic development. Las Vegas diversification economy will promote production capacity. If Las Vegas has diversification economy, there are many industries and factories, the quantity of products will increase. Meanwhile at the same time, Las Vegas will have more contribution for GDP in United Stated. It is means Las Vegas will have more budgets and expand the ity scale. I remembered I learned the definition of production capacity in my Chinese high school is that the ability of human beings to change the nature. If we have diversification economy in Las Vegas we will have a stronger ability to change the nature, we can use more nature resource make more products for the human beings society in the new industry and factory in Las Vegas. As you see, the production capacity which bring by diversification economy can be ignored. It is also a big benefit. The last benefit is widely known, of course, it is the employment opportunities. The diversification economy will bring many new industry and new factory in Las Vegas. Therefore, there are many new job opportunities for people in Las Vegas. On other hand, Las Vegas will attract many people come from all over the wor ld to find a good job and settled down in Las Vegas. It will promote Las Vegas become a larger city, if many people settled down in Las Vegas and work in Las Vegas. We always heard something like this we improve the employment rate this year from news or government report, but did you ever think about that what bring many employment opportunity? This is based on many new industries and new factories and then brings many employment opportunities. This is a simple principle, but always ignored by people. According to the â€Å"Report: Las Vegas needs to diversify export economy† written by Robison who is a famous author in Las Vegas Review Journal, The total export in Las Vegas is about 7 billion dollars and in the growing of export at position twelfth at time between 2003 and 2008 among 100 biggest cities in United Stated.Las Vegas is number 72nd among 100 biggest cities GDP, the contribution is almost 8percent in the total GDP of 100 biggest cites in United Stated. But the peo ple who live in Las Vegas, try know they should do something to save Las Vegas, they know Macao have more gambling scale than Las Vegas, Las Vegas is not yet gambling first place in the world. Therefore, people should think about to built a new industry to support the large city. Las Vegas needs to diversification economy urgently. I studied in Seattle for one year. In my eyes, the diversification economy in Seattle is very successful. For example, a lot of big companies in Seattle like Boeing and Microsoft. The big companies contribute for GDP have a great influence. According to Brad Smith who is general counsel in Microsoft said that employment contributed by Microsoft around 29 percent in Washington State in past twenty years. There are many industry in Seattle is very good. All I know that aerospace industry, information technology industry, bioscience industry, cleans technology, environmental industry and international trade in Seattle are the outstanding industries. In Las Veg as, we also can learn from Seattle, we should have some outstanding industries beside hospitality industry. If we have many great industries, we need more talents. Therefore, we will have good education in university. Seattle has a university named University of Washington; this university is a great university in the world. If we have diversification economy in Las Vegas the UNLV not just good at the hospitality major. Another example I want to compare with Las Vegas is Detroit. Long time ago Detroit named â€Å"America’s Paris† because in this city have many Gilded age building.Today, based on my sociology what I learned in Green River Community College, the pillar industry in Detroit include auto industry, iron and steel industry, airplane and tank industry, chemistry industry, metal industry, wood industry and shipping industry. But all the industries in Detroit are based on auto industry, this is a typical city which one is Las Vegas should to learn. We can set up many industries around our hospitality industry. In this way, we still the casino city and we have many industries to support the city.Sooner or later, we will defeat Macao and become the best hospitality city again with our strong economic power from our diversification economy. There is a company named City Center based on the hospitality industry to develop the high technology. They invented a kind of automatic door and plan to install this door for every guest room; moreover they use automatic technology on TV and many devices in guest rooms (CityCenter, Robison). Many company can leaned from City Center to develop the high technology for Las Vegas, for example we can use robots to cook food for customer and clean the guest rooms. If we have the hotel robots industry we can have more employment opportunities and we can sell the hotel robots for hotel. City Center also have a stone pit, they use the stone to build hotel. (CityCenter, Robinson) We can see many nature stone around Las Vegas we can use those stone make money. What industry is fit for Las Vegas? Firstly, the solar power generation is best one. We know Las Vegas has solar power generation already, but it is not enough. If the solar power can support the electric power of whole city, and also has surplus power to sell for other city, other states and even other country.Secondly, stone and mining industry. The countless nature stone around Las Vegas, this is the fortune of Las Vegas. We can mine the stone and use it build our hotel and also we can sell stone for other state and other country. Thirdly, the high technology is other good industry. We are in America, the high technology country in the world. We should take advantage of our high technology which we already have, and create new high technology to benefit people in Las Vegas. The last thing is the professional sport team.If we have professional sport team not only we can make money from sport game, but also we can make money from our spo rt team clothes, cap, cup and so on. In conclusion, the benefit of diversification economy in Las Vegas cannot be ignored. It is not just the economy benefit more over is sustainable development in Las Vegas. People need better life and stable life. If we have diversification economy, the education, medical treatment, and welfare system will have a great improvement. Therefore, we must have diversification economy in Las Vegas.

Organizational Commitment and Communication

The American Red Cross is an organization that helps prevent human suffering during events that leads the human society while in emergency crisis. The American Red Cross has the ability to mobilize the power of volunteers as well as the generosity of donors. The reader will be given a brief description on how different leadership styles affects the group communication within the American Red Cross. The reader will also be given an analysis of the different sources of power found in the organization and how will these affect the organization communication. It is imperative that the reader also understands how the American Red Cross identifies the motivational theories that will be most effective in different cultures. Finally, a description of the commitment of the workforce to the organization and their relationship to the organizations communication will be provided. Leadership Styles and Effects At the American Red Cross there are several leadership styles that are being used. â€Å"Leader's establish direction by developing a vision of the future; then they align people by communicating this vision and inspiring them to overcome hurdles† (Robbins & Judge, 2011. Some of the main leadership styles that affects the American Red Cross are the transactional, charismatic, and transformational. The transformational leadership is the most common style for The American Red Cross. â€Å"Transformational leaders inspire followers to transcend their own self-interests for the good of the organization and are capable of having a profoun d and extraordinary effect on their followers† (Robbins & Judge, 2011. ) Transformational leaders tend to have more passion in everything that they do. The first step as a leader is to have a mission and a vision. Transformational leaders motivate the performance of the followers as well as understanding their strengths and weaknesses so that the leader may align the followers with tasks that will boost their performance. It is important to be a role model to the followers as this action will inspire them and make them more interested while challenging them to take a greater ownership for their work. A charismatic leader will ensure to pay attention to every person making that person feel important. At this time they are scanning the individuals to pick up their moods and their concerns. At this time the charismatic leader will be able to improve their actions and words to suit the situation. Finally, the transactional leadership plays the role in The American Red Cross as the supervisor of the organization. Every organization has to have a chain of command as well as motivation through rewards and punishments. The transactional leader is the leader that holds the followers to rules, procedures, and standards. Sources of Power There are different types of power within The American Red Cross organization. Power is seen as the ability to implementing control over an individual or a group. While everyone has power, each individual possess and utilize power in a way that it will benefit their organization’s needs. Coercive power is the power that is able to punish those who do not follow orders as requested by the leader. On the other hand using coercive power may also be used to influence the decision of that is being made by taking something away as a punishment if he or she does not follow a request that has been made. The American Red Cross uses the coercive power to ensure that their followers follow their rules and guidelines that they have in place. Expert power is the power that shows the person’s knowledge or specialized skills. Individuals will gain more power by showing a greater knowledge of the task that will be performed. The expertise power is a power that should be taken care of to make sure that the leader maintains its credibility. Also it is important to avoid any threatening of the self-esteem of subordinates to ensure any dislikes from team members against the leader creating unhappy team members. Legitimate power is the power that the leader will have when the employees believe that any orders coming from the leader is because of the leader’s position within the organization and they should be followed as requested. This power is developed through time. Communication in Relation to Motivational Theory At the American Red Cross, there are two types of motivational theories which are applied to the organization. The motivational theories are the expectancy theory and the cognitive evaluation theory. The expectancy is the proposal to a person to behave in a certain way by persuading them to select a specific behavior over others to ensure the expected results. On the other hand cognitive evaluation theory is a theory that is designed to clarify the effects of consequences. These are ways that are used to persuade individuals through awards to control desirable behavior. Workforce Commitment The American Red Cross and commitment goes hand in hand. As commitment to the individuals that they help is one of the most powerful ways that they can use to motivate the volunteer helpers to accomplish their tasks and reach the designated goal. It is imperative to at least give a pat on the back to let the individuals know that they are doing a good job and motivating them to continue to work. Being positive and providing the employees or volunteers with positive feedback can help the organization go along ways? As the mission statement of the American Red Cross states, â€Å"The American Red Cross empowers ordinary people to perform extraordinary acts of service. † (American National Red Cross, 2013) The American Red Cross has been a successful organization that will use the power of volunteers to help those that are in need. The transactional, charismatic, and transformational leadership’s styles have an effect on the group communication of the American Red Cross. The leadership styles and the sources of power work hand in hand to ensure that the organization is meeting all of their goals as well as ensuring that the volunteers are on tasks and in a good working environment. The motivational theories are just a way to ensure that the volunteers and employees are committed to the workforce. The American Red Cross is a well-established organization and as long as they follow all of the above this organization will continue to be very successful in anything that they set their minds to do.

Project 4 Essay

Project 4 Essay Project 4 Essay Aya Abdulrahman Professor Rife English 1100 25 November 2014 Texting is Destroying English Can texting affect our English? The answer is yes, it can. It seems like I can’t walk anywhere without seeing at least one person glued to their phone screen typing away as fast as they can. â€Å"Adolescents reported receiving 46.03 and sending 45.11 text messages per day† (Cingel and Sundar 1310). The English language is like a beautiful ocean, when it's polluted, it becomes ugly and unwanted. Most people love and enjoy the texting language because it's simple and fast. Texting is reported as the most preferred communication style (Cingel and Sundar 1306). Texting does change and hurt the English language in so many ways. It teaches younger generations the wrong structure and grammar of the English language. It also affects those who are newly introduced to the English language. I believe that texting will change the English language in the future so much that it will become an odd language to speak. Throughout the centuries and decades English has changed a lot. The introduction of cellphones and texting has extraordinarily impacted the way in which people communicate (Kemp and Bushnell 18). People no longer have to make phone calls to keep in touch with friends and family, they can now type a short message stating whatever they need to say. People don't speak English the same way it was spoken hundreds of years ago. A new word comes out every day, and texting has a big role in that change. I have seen how people say the same word they use in text messages in their actual conversation like "LOL" which means laugh out loud, "ROFL" which means â€Å"rolling on the floor laughing†, and the list goes on. Some people not only use the texting language when they speak, but they write it out as well. I have been in a class where my teacher was so upset because some of the student used the texting language and even emoticons in their homework, essays, and exams. Some students do not seem to be able to alternate between text speak and normal English in a classroom setting. â€Å"Average sent word adaptation, consisting of abbreviations, letter omissions, and homophones, was found to negatively predict grammar score, so much so that it accounted for more variance than grade (Cingel and Sundar 1316). Thus, the texting language is starting to dominate the English language Texting is most dangerous and harmful on the younger generations. Young people enjoy texting the most among all other ages, which makes it faster and easier for them to dominate and mix the texting words and symbols with the English language. Some results suggest there’s correlation between texting and bad test results. â€Å"A survey was conducted to test the association between text message usage of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and their scores on an offline, age appropriate grammar assessment test. Of the 229 students surveyed it showed broad support for the negative relationship between tech speak and grammar† (Cingel and Sundar 1304). Texting does not only affect the English language itself, but it affects how those young people communicate with each other when they talk. This means that they will carry this new language to the next generation, and it will change the English language. Texting not only devalue the English language, it makes it meaningless too. For example, I have a friend who likes to say "ILY" a lot, which means "I love you." Some people even say "HBD" instead of saying "Happy Birthday" to me. It makes absolutely no sense to use these expressions. Symbols and words like these not only change and hurt the English language; they change and weaken relationship between people. The way people communicate is all about feelings and the meanings of this beautiful language. Unfortunately, using texting language kill those feelings and the real meaning of what people want to say and what they actually mean. Another impact of texting is that it makes it harder for

What I Learned from the Fire essays

What I Learned from the Fire essays Experiencing a house fire changes what you value in life and it shows you what is truly important. ?As the bell rang Friday, August 31st, (Labor Day weekend) I thought it was going to be the best weekend of my entire life. My grandparents from Florida came for a visit and I had so many plans with my friends. It got ever better when I realized I had no homework. That night my family and I went out to eat at Parason's which is really rare for us because we never go out to eat. I remember being so anxious at dinner because Laura and I were going to have a sleepover. Once dinner was over my parents finally dropped me off at Laura's. I remember telling Laura how much I hated my parents and that they ruin everything. I also remember complaining about things like I didn't have enough clothes. I only looked at the things I didn't have instead of being grateful for what I did have. ?The next day my dad came to pick me up early in the morning and we went shopping all day. Saturday night my mom went over to my grandparents hotel to spend some time with them, while my dad and I stayed home and watched a movie. My mom came home long after my dad and I had fallen asleep. She always parks her car in the garage and of course shuts the garage door after she parked. My dog and two cats are outside pets and they stay in the garage at night. At 4:15 on Sunday morning, I awoke to my mom barging in my room and pulling up my blinds to see what was going on outside. She woke up because she thought she heard gun shots going off at our house, but what we saw was huge orange flames. We both panicked. You think my house will never burn down or if it did, you would grab some of your most treasured items. But let me tell you, when it is happening to you all you are thinking about is getting out of there. I didn't even have enough time to grab my glasses. My mom seemed to be really calm and I could never understand why. My dad thought she wa...

Compensation Plan Outline Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Compensation Plan Outline - Assignment Example Equity awards are more preferred in the bank and are given after several years of deferring compensation. In determining appropriate levels of compensation, the bank management considers several factors including the performance of an individual, the business unit in which they work, and the bank as a whole in a given period; and short term and long term financial and non financial related factors. Before any compensation can be given, the company contracts evaluators who present reports to the management. These evaluation report â€Å"Compensation Plan Outline† helps the company to assess the performance at individual levels especially on issues of compliance to banking standards and in making decisions which do not put the company into avoidable risks. Those employees and shareholder who make critical decisions that save the company from taking unnecessary risks and ensure that the bank does not face penalties due to non compliance to laws, are highly compensated. This there fore encourages bank associates and shareholders to be well informed on appropriate legal banking procedures at bank level and nationally. The bank has put in place various measures to ensure that all compensation is fair and just based on its banking principles. The bank’s management has a separate unit of compensation and benefits committee, and there are also various control points at business level like risk, audit, and compliance checks to ensure any decision made on behalf of the bank is well noted and reported in the context of its compliance. to risk and performance standards accepted nationally and locally at the bank. The presence of these various units in the bank management ensures that there is independence in the functions of each section or committee. This is especially important in determining which compensation consultant is engaged to carry out auditing and evaluation exercises on bank functions and performance. The corporate nature of the bank as it is in major corporations nationally and globally makes evaluation of compensation more diverse in order to incorporate interests of all stakeholders including legislators. In as much as compensation in the bank of America should be in line with what the financial industry has agreed upon, the bank has its own internal measures with which any compensation amount must be adjusted in order to reflect the value the company attaches to performance standards. The bank conducts audit and evaluations at most yearly so as to give stakeholders an opportunity to give ideas on how they expect the bank to compensate its associates, workers and shareholders. These audit and evaluations are based on general set standards at national level by authorities who regulate the financial industry. The bank’s pay for performance philosophy is indeed appropriate and it is in good spirit so that workers who deserve compensation are motivated as their efforts are r ecognized. This makes the bank employees to be disciplined and work under their own supervision taking measures which are appropriate and can earn rewards for themselves and profits for

Cause and Effect of Race on Life Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Cause and Effect of Race on My Life - Essay Example It is not essential that everybody has to face certain problems in association with these characteristics but for me, the situation was on the negative side. I belong to the Middle East and I chose to pursue my studies in the United States with the prospect of achieving a better future. Though it is believed by many that racism is not a major factor which affects the living of a person in today’s world but in my case, my life was very much affected by my race. I was one of the very few people in my college in the United States who came from the Middle East. My race was one of the major reasons why not many people in my class wanted to befriend me. I was new in the country and an international student and it was a period when I actually needed help and support. It was very difficult on my part to communicate with people because I perceived that most of them did not want to engage in conversations with or assist me in getting used to the place. I still remember the time when I a sked a college mate to give me his notes to which he flatly refused and did not even speak any further. The concept that I actually realized was that the whites preferred sticking to their own groups. This was the beginning but with time things did change and we got on better terms after a few months. The level of trust was not very high but I actually communicate with them. We were colleagues but not friends who would actually go out or attend parties together. It cannot be denied that my race did assist me in many matters. I formed a very strong bond and actually made really good friends with people who belonged to different races and were international students like me.
